Hey IH fam! I’m Aleksei — indie maker and dad of two from Belarus, now based in Poland.
I recently launched Ulik, an iOS expense tracker I built out of frustration with existing apps.
Most budget apps are either:
❌ Too bloated with features I never use
❌ Force you to connect your bank
❌ Confusing UX or dark patterns
I just wanted something simple:
→ Add income/expenses fast
→ Plan recurring bills
→ Track monthly budget
→ Fully offline, no accounts, no ads
So I built Ulik.
Key features:
Full offline mode
Multi-currency support with automatic exchange rates
Recurring transactions & project-based budgets
Built-in calculator for quick input
All data stays on your device
Would love your thoughts or feedback — and if you give it a try, I hope it helps you stay on top of your money 💰
Hey! I was looking for this kind of app, started to use Actual Budget (Open source), but still open to try ios app. Have tried a few.
Do you need test user with feedback, for pro plan?
Hey Alex — founder of Konta here, I took a completely different angle on the same core problem. Instead of minimizing the UI, I removed the app entirely: you text a Telegram or WhatsApp bot "paid 45€ groceries" and it categorizes and saves automatically. No screen to open, no form to fill.
What I've learned: the friction isn't just app complexity, it's the context-switch moment (pocket → phone → app → navigate). The offline-first approach solves one dimension of this, the messaging approach solves another.
Genuine question: what's your biggest activation challenge? I'm finding that getting people past "interesting concept" to actually using it daily is where most drop off.
Love it! Simple and offline. I’ve always been a bit hesitant to keep my financial info on someone else's server. Are you planning to include a way to sync/backup across devices or platforms using a self managed solution like iCloud, Google Drive, etc? Something similar to what Obsidian offers?
Big fan of the offline-first mindset. Most expense trackers feel bloated or intrusive. Ulik looks like a breath of fresh air!
The tracker is great. I used to use regular handwritten notes. I think it can make life much easier for many people
Great idea, I have my own tracker that I use for this, but it requires manual entry and is easiest on PC. Great idea to have an app that tracks income/expenses, budget and recurring bills. One thing I added on mine was the ability to save for goals (e.g. a trip or new car and how long that would take with current savings). Wonder if you've considered adding any unique tools like that?
Consistency and user feedback are the key. Focus on solving a specific problem, refine based on early responses, and keep improving. Even small iterations can lead to a strong product-market fit over time.
Hey
Can't find it on Google play store.
It's an iOS app mate. There's no mention of it being on Google Play Store.
