A friend of mine has been in B2B sales for over 20 years. He told me something last week that changed how I think about outbound.

No reply to a cold DM. No intro, no referral. One prospect liked one of his posts. That was the whole opening.

His process:

He stopped pulling lists off filters and blasting sequences. Now he watches for what he calls dynamic signals, small behaviors that show someone is already thinking about the problem he solves:

• viewed his profile

• liked a competitor's post

• commented under a post about the problem

• followed someone in his space

• showed up in a niche discussion

Most people scroll past that stuff. He treats it as the start of a conversation.

When someone engages with something close to his offer, he uses it as context and sends one relevant thing. A short insight, a case study, a question about whatever they just engaged with. No sequence, no pitch.

Two examples he gave me:

A VP viewed his profile after reading his post about ROI in telecom. He sent over a case study on ROI for a similar client. The VP replied the same day.

A director liked an influencer's post about the exact problem his product solves. He sent a short message offering help, no strings. Call booked that week.

His numbers since switching: 4x replies, 4x acceptance rate, and over 90% of people who respond are actually qualified.

His formula: high intent + right timing = conversations that convert.

It's slow compared to firing off 500 DMs. It works.
