A few weeks ago I shipped a Sales Proposal Grader — five questions about your proposal process, instant score, personalised insights. It got some traction and the feedback was useful.
The most common thing people said after using it was some version of: "this is helpful for my process in general, but I have a specific deal going quiet right now and I don't know what to do."
So I built a second tool for that exact moment.
The Deal Silence Checker asks five questions about one specific deal — how long the silence has been, whether you know if they opened it, whether anyone else from the company engaged with it, what the last observable engagement was, and what your gut is telling you. Then it gives you a plain-English read on what the silence pattern most likely means.
There are four patterns it maps to:
Paralysed buyer — silence in communication but the document is still being opened and re-read. Research on why deals stall after genuine interest points to fear of making the wrong decision as the primary driver, not loss of interest. This pattern calls for reducing the perceived risk of deciding, not pushing harder.
Genuine disengagement — silence on both sides, no document activity, gut says cooling or lost. The right response here is completely different from the paralysis case — a direct, low-pressure question that gives the prospect permission to say no cleanly.
Internal friction — a second stakeholder appeared, or an engaged contact suddenly went quiet. The deal is moving internally without the rep in the room. A direct question about whether anything has changed tends to surface the blocker faster than anything else.
Insufficient signal — no visibility into what happened after sending. Every follow-up is a guess because there is no data to interpret.
No email gate. No signup. The result appears immediately. At the bottom there is a soft mention of DocMetrics for anyone who wants to see these signals automatically on every deal they send.
The grader and the checker now work as a pair — one for your overall process, one for a live deal right now. Both free, both permanent.

Curious whether the four patterns feel right to anyone who has been in this situation — and whether the reading you get matches what eventually turned out to be true on a deal you remember.
