Since ChatGPT launched there has been an increase in AI-generated posts on LinkedIn.
In October 2024 more than half of long-form posts on LinkedIn were likely AI-generated.
Post length has also increased since Chat-GPT launched.
LinkedIn might not be everyone’s cup of tea. I know some indie hackers tend to be allergic to its ingenuine corporate vibes. But love it or hate it, it's one of the best places for business connections and landing clients.

LI posts were already cringe before so I don't think this is such a "bad" outcome.

Absolutely right. AI generate content and images are not ideal practices. Instead of using AI directly into work, first needs to get idea and raw information for your work which you can humanize and then use it.
I work for a social media platform, and I hate to see this unfold. While we're actually helping real businesses reach their customers, it's overcrowded with gurus and engagement bait.
We've now made a new tool that aims to make it more frictionless for experts to use LinkedIn. I hope it is some sort of a tiny solution to dead internet theory but in the wrong hands it could contribute to it as well. Time will tell.

This would also for lack of a better word train people to distinguish between AI and non-AI content. The more you read, the better you become. Soon enough we might be able to notice engagement differences between the two. Not everyone wants to read a mechanical rendition of technical concepts on LinkedIn.
Not surprising. AI does make generating content a lot easier. I wish that people would use it for inspiration and maybe drafts, but then fact-check and edit by hand to make sure that what's published is accurate.
I routinely see AI generated content that are plain false.
If the dead internet theory becomes complete reality, then we can leave social media to the bots, and go back to meeting each other in person. ;-)

Linkedin encourages AI written content. In its post placeholder, the text is "Start a post, try writing with AI". So it is unlikely that they will take any step to reduce it or incentivize originality. Maybe, their primary goal is still to get more people to interact on the platform. So, theoretically, they will just want to have better content that people read and engage with, AI-generated or not.

I only use LinkedIn to update my profile, but I end up looking at most of these 'how to improve' posts. Sooner, I assumed most of them were AI-written and one of my co-workers did it too.
